Istanbul:Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkiye is ready to undertake all possible measures to facilitate peace between Russia and Ukraine.
According to Qatar News Agency, Erdogan made these statements during a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul. The discussions between the two leaders centered on the recent intensified efforts towards achieving peace in Ukraine and the security concerns in the Black Sea region.
Erdogan emphasized that any attacks on civilian vessels and actions that increase tensions in the Black Sea are counterproductive to all parties involved. He reaffirmed Turkiye's commitment to advancing efforts for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted that he and Erdogan discussed upcoming trilateral negotiations involving US, Ukrainian, and Russian peace negotiators, which are expected to occur in early November. Zelensky expressed Kyiv's interest in including Europe and possibly Turkiye in these discussions to end the ongoing war, now in its fifth year.
Additionally, Zelensky noted that both leaders agreed on Turkiye increasing its support for Ukraine's energy sector amid rising Russian attacks.
