Beirut: A Lebanese soldier was killed in an Israeli bombing raid on Tuesday near Qaraoun Dam in West Bekaa, eastern Lebanon, the Lebanese army reported in a statement on Wednesday. The incident marks another escalation in the ongoing tensions between the two nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Lebanese army's statement detailed that a military unit managed to retrieve the body of the deceased soldier on Wednesday. This was achieved after persistent field efforts, as accessing the body was deemed impossible on Tuesday due to continuous security threats and targeting of the region.
The area experienced multiple Israeli airstrikes on the day of the incident. The attacks not only claimed the life of the soldier but also resulted in the deaths of some paramedics who were engaged in a humanitarian evacuation mission at the time.
The continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon occur despite a truce accord that was initiated on April 16. This truce was extended for a second time on May 15, with a 45-day duration. The attacks have raised concerns over the deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions in the region.
