Qatar Advocates for Regional Security Framework Respecting Sovereignty

Doha:The State of Qatar has called for the establishment of a new regional security framework centered on respecting state sovereignty and mutual non-aggression. This call comes with an appeal to Iran to demonstrate its commitment to regional stability through tangible actions.

According to Qatar News Agency, Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Director of the Media and Communication Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Qatar's development of defense capabilities is part of a broader strategy to enhance deterrence and protect national sovereignty, rather than a direct response to any single crisis. Speaking at the ministry's weekly media briefing, Al Hashemi noted that Qatar's defense systems have successfully managed all attacks during recent regional escalations, ensuring that daily life and economic activities continue without disruption.

Al Hashemi highlighted the collaboration between Qatar, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Mecca Defense Alliance to de-escalate tensions in the region. He emphasized the readiness of Qatar and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states to establish a regional security framework, urging Tehran to uphold the proposed principles and demonstrate good faith. Despite positive statements from Tehran, Al Hashemi stressed the need for Iran to translate its promises into action by ending threats against regional countries and ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Qatari delegation's visit to Tehran is part of ongoing consultations with partners aimed at sustaining mediation. Al Hashemi described the process as moving in a positive direction, focusing on reducing tensions and preventing further escalation. He acknowledged that recent statements from both Washington and Tehran have raised concerns about further escalation but noted that both sides have also stressed the importance of pursuing diplomatic solutions through dialogue.

Qatar, Pakistan, and their regional and international partners are focused on advancing diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting agreement that comprehensively resolves the crisis. Addressing exchanges between the United States and Iran, Al Hashemi mentioned that mediators aim to build on positive signals, bridge differences, and work towards outcomes that could bring a sustainable end to the crisis and safeguard international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Al Hashemi reiterated the commitment of mediators to preserving a "window of hope," emphasizing that a lasting solution can only be achieved through negotiations and sustained efforts to ease tensions peacefully. Diplomatic messages, proposals, and views continue to pass between Washington and Tehran through Qatar's mediation channel, in coordination with partners, aiming to contain the conflict and create conditions for an early diplomatic settlement.
