Doha: Al-Watan newspaper highlighted in its recent editorial that the launch of the Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) is a significant step towards economic diversification in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. The establishment of QDE aims to strengthen Qatar's position as a reliable partner in the global diamond trade by integrating various components of the diamond and gemstone value chain within a comprehensive system. This includes trading, secure storage, auctions, tenders, and industry support services.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatar Free Zones Authority announced the launch of the QDE on Sunday. This fully integrated platform facilitates the trading of rough and polished diamonds and precious stones by offering trading, membership, vaulting, certification, and industry services within a single regulated ecosystem. The exchange features a secure trading floor, private negotiation suites, an institutional-grade vault with biometric access control, 24/7 security and surveillance, customs facilities, and on-site certification services. These features are designed to connect Doha to international diamond markets and attract companies involved in trade, manufacturing, cutting, and polishing.
Al-Watan further emphasized that QDE members will benefit from trading licenses, on-site assortment, independent valuation, vault access, and specialist insurance, all within a free zone that offers 100% foreign ownership and 0% corporate tax for qualifying entities. This initiative is expected to support economic diversification and enhance Qatar's position in the global diamond trade.
In another editorial, Al-Arab newspaper addressed Qatar's ongoing efforts to protect natural reserves and preserve biodiversity. These efforts are spearheaded by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, focusing on preserving mangrove forests and coastal reserves. The development of reserves such as Al Thakhira Reserve and Bin Ghannam Island, alongside awareness programs and field visits, reflects Qatar's commitment to environmental issues as part of its National Vision 2030.
Al-Arab highlighted the importance of nature reserves in Qatar due to their diverse ecosystems and their role in protecting endangered species, maintaining ecological balance, and promoting community awareness. The editorial concluded by noting the spread of mangrove trees across various regions, such as Al Khor, Al Thakhira, Al Wakrah, and Mesaieed, and the ministry's efforts to preserve these areas and prevent excessive exploitation, in collaboration with national bodies and institutions.
