Doha: Qatari newspapers focused their Thursday editorials on Qatar diplomatic efforts and its support for de-escalation and the promotion of regional security and stability by intensifying consultations and communications with fraternal countries and reinforcing dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred approach to resolving disagreements and conflicts.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers stressed the importance of strengthening joint Gulf action and unifying positions to address current regional challenges, safeguard the region security and resources, and promote its development. They also highlighted the identical letters Qatar sent to the United Nations and the Security Council regarding the latest developments related to the Iranian attack on its territory, which constitutes a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty, a direct threat to its security, and an unacceptable escalation that endangers the region security and stability.
Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted Qatar intensive diplomatic efforts at all levels to de-escalate tensions and prioritize political solutions and dialogue, thereby strengthening regional security and stability and advancing the diplomatic resolution of disputes. The newspaper pointed out that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received a phone call on Wednesday from HE President of the fraternal Syrian Arab Republic Ahmed Al Sharaa. The two leaders reviewed the latest regional and international developments, particularly the evolving situation in the Middle East. The Syrian President commended Qatar role and its efforts to ease tensions and promote regional and international security, the newspaper added.
Alongside HH the Amir contacts, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani continued to hold consultations with the foreign ministers of fraternal countries to strengthen joint coordination in support of efforts to defuse tensions and reach a comprehensive agreement that ensures lasting peace in the region. The latest consultations included a series of phone calls held by His Excellency with the foreign ministers of the fraternal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Kingdom of Bahrain, Al-Sharq added.
Concluding its editorial, Al-Sharq said that the consultations emphasized the need for all parties to remain committed to dialogue and diplomacy and to implement the memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, with a view to safeguarding regional security, preserving the gains achieved, and strengthening regional stability.
For its part, Al-Watan newspaper affirmed that Qatar continues to play a pivotal role in promoting regional peace and stability through diplomacy and mediation, while remaining firmly committed to dialogue and peaceful solutions to de-escalate tensions in the region. The paper said that Qatar's actions constitute a fundamental pillar of its foreign policy and a firmly established approach based on its permanent constitution and its unwavering commitment to the Charter of the United Nations.
Qatar continues its diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote security and stability in the region by stressing the need for all parties to remain committed to dialogue and diplomacy and to implement the understandings reached under the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. These include ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, preserving the gains achieved, and strengthening regional stability, thereby shielding the region peoples from the repercussions of any renewed escalation, the newspaper noted.
Al-Watan concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar has repeatedly stressed the need for all parties to respond positively to ongoing mediation efforts, paving the way for the crisis to be addressed through peaceful means and dialogue and preventing a renewed escalation. Qatar also rejected any attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz or impose any legal interpretation that would restrict freedom of navigation through it, considering such action a violation of international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
