Qatar Participates in UNCTAD Meeting on Consumer Protection Law and Policy

Geneva: The State of Qatar took part in the 9th session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Consumer Protection Law and Policy. The meeting was organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) from July 6-10, 2026, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Qatar's delegation was led by Hassan bin Sultan Al Ghanim, Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on developing legislation and policies concerning consumer protection and competition. It aimed to enhance product safety and tackle challenges related to e-commerce and digital markets. The experts also discussed strategies for combating harmful goods and unfair commercial practices. Moreover, the meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation and exchanging best practices to foster competitive markets and protect consumer rights.
