Doha:Qatar Museums (QM) has inaugurated the 'Mihad' Gallery at Doha Design District, developed by QC+. This new creative platform is designed to gather artists and designers from Qatar, the wider region, and around the world, offering them the opportunity to showcase their work to the public and art collectors.
According to Qatar News Agency, the gallery officially opened on Tuesday evening and is based on the concept of "living with art and design." It aims to integrate artistic expression into everyday life, making creativity an accessible and enduring part of the public experience.
The launch of the gallery was marked by three inaugural exhibitions. Mihad Gallery seeks to foster meaningful connections between creative practitioners and both individual and institutional collectors through the presentation of artworks, design pieces, and bespoke commissions. The gallery's program will include a rotating calendar of exhibitions, design showcases, panel discussions, workshops, and cultural events, creating an evolving space for artistic exchange, discovery, and engagement.
Kirsten Mernz, Chief Executive Officer of QC+, stated that the establishment of Mihad Gallery reflects a firm belief in celebrating exceptional artistic and design practices. She emphasized that while the gallery has an international outlook, its identity is rooted in the local context, informed by artistic perspectives from Qatar. The gallery aims to engage in a dynamic dialogue with the global creative landscape.
Irina Kaletinkina, Director of Mihad Gallery, explained the initiative's vision of positioning art and design beyond traditional confines. The gallery's inaugural program consists of three exhibitions "Rooted Elsewhere," "Beyond the Letter," and "Traces of Desert Light," each exploring distinct themes of landscape and belonging, calligraphic traditions, and the relationship between light, materials, and craftsmanship.
Claire Kyle, Director of Commercial and Art Design at QC+, provided details about the exhibitions. "Rooted Elsewhere" celebrates the Qatar-Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, featuring photography, textiles, and mixed-media works. "Beyond the Letter," in collaboration with Doha Design Biennale 2026, explores Arabic and Persian calligraphic traditions. "Traces of Desert Light," also presented with Doha Design Biennale 2026, examines light and traditional craftsmanship.
Through its exhibitions and multidisciplinary program, Mihad Gallery aims to establish itself as a distinctive addition to Qatar's cultural and design landscape, reinforcing Qatar's ambition to nurture creative exchange and connect audiences, makers, and collectors globally.
