Baku: HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim has emphasized Qatar's commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiation, under the guidance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He highlighted this approach as essential for preserving sovereignty, fostering good neighborliness, and adhering to international law, particularly in addressing crises and promoting regional stability and security.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Ghanim's remarks were made during the 20th session of the Conference of the Union of Councils of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baku. The session, which started on Wednesday and concluded on Thursday, serves as a significant platform for promoting cooperation between Islamic councils and parliaments.
Al Ghanim pointed to Qatar's role in facilitating a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative, supported by Qatari-Pakistani mediation, seeks to de-escalate tensions and enhance regional security and cooperation.
Despite past aggressions against Qatar, the country remains steadfast in its commitment to dialogue and diplomacy, aspiring for renewed stability that ensures the smooth flow of global trade and strengthens regional security. Al Ghanim reiterated the importance of cooperation and harmony, as advocated by Islamic principles, in achieving common goals.
He praised the Union of Councils of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for its efforts in fostering joint Islamic parliamentary work. Al Ghanim also highlighted the success of the Islamic group in introducing an emergency item at the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul, emphasizing the role of Islamic parliaments in advocating for sustainable political solutions to conflicts and supporting freedom of navigation.
Addressing the Palestinian issue, Al Ghanim reaffirmed its centrality to the Islamic nation, stressing the need for Palestinian self-determination and condemning ongoing Israeli actions in Palestinian territories. He called for unified parliamentary efforts to support just causes and enhance their presence in international forums.
In closing, Al Ghanim expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting the conference and anticipated that the discussions would further strengthen cooperation among member councils, supporting shared positions and serving the interests of the Islamic nation. Members of the Shura Council, including Saad bin Ahmed Al Misnad and Khalid bin Abbas Kamal Al Emadi, actively participated in various meetings during the conference, which addressed parliamentary cooperation and a range of political, economic, and social issues.
