1 Dead, Dozens Injured in Indonesian Earthquake

Doha: One person was killed and dozens injured in a powerful earthquake that struck Indonesia on Tuesday. Indonesian local authorities confirmed that the earthquake hit parts of Sulawesi island in the central part of the country, causing material damage. Rescue teams and relevant authorities are working to assess the losses and provide assistance to those affected.

According to Qatar News Agency, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency announced on Tuesday that the epicenter of the earthquake, which measured 6.7 on the Richter scale, was located 42 kilometers southeast of the city of Palu, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the Earth's surface. The tremor was felt across a wide area.

Earthquakes regularly strike different parts of Indonesia, which lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
