Ashghal Showcases State-of-the-Art Digital Transformation Applications in Infrastructure Sector

Doha: Public Works Authority "Ashghal" showcased the latest digital transformation applications leveraged in the infrastructure sector, with a particular emphasis on Building Information Model (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) in developing the national digital twin.

According to Qatar News Agency, this presentation occurred during a specialized session as part of Project Qatar 2026 events. Ashghal highlighted the importance of integrating these two technologies to advance the national digital twin, as well as enhance planning efficiency, implementation, and asset management, aligning with the nation's sustainable development goals.

During a session titled "BIM and GIS: Toward developing the national digital twin of the State of Qatar," Eng. Amna Al Baker from the Engineering Services Department discussed BIM's role in enhancing the efficiency of planning, designing, implementing, and managing infrastructure projects. This technology is instrumental in optimizing integration across various project phases, improving data quality, and refining decision-making processes, ultimately bolstering competency and sustainability.

Eng. Nayef Al Ansari, also from the Engineering Services Department, elaborated on the role of GIS in spatial data integration, management, and analysis. He emphasized that GIS supports urban planning, asset management, and smart infrastructure. Al Ansari noted that merging GIS data with BIM models fosters the development of an integrated digital ecosystem, supporting the advancement of the national digital twin with precise, real-time data that improves operational efficiency, maintenance, and future planning.
