Foreign Ministers Condemn Colombia’s Embassy Opening in Jerusalem

Doha:The Foreign Ministers of Qatar, along with those from 17 Arab and Islamic countries, have condemned Colombia's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem. They argue that this move contradicts United Nations Security Council resolutions and disrupts international efforts for a peace agreement based on a two-state solution.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministers from Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Turkiye, and Yemen joined Qatar in expressing their firm rejection of Colombia's action. They assert that any attempts to alter the legal status of Jerusalem or recognize it as Israel's capital are invalid and have no legal standing. This stance is supported by UN Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478 from 1980, which oppose changes to Jerusalem's status and urge nations to withdraw diplomatic missions from the city, considered part of Palestinian territory since 1967.

The ministers urge Colombia to reconsider its decision, respect international legal obligations, and avoid actions that harm the rights of Palestinians, including their claim to East Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent state.
