Doha: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned and denounced statements made by the Houthi group's military spokesperson. In a statement on Tuesday, Albudaiwi condemned Houthi false allegations and groundless accusations made against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in what he described as a desperate and exposed attempt to distort facts and evade responsibility for the group's practices, which have contributed to deepening the suffering of the Yemeni people and threatening regional security and stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, the GCC Secretary General emphasized that these irresponsible statements will not alter established facts, particularly Saudi Arabia's sincere efforts to support the Yemeni people. Albudaiwi highlighted the Kingdom's contributions towards achieving security and stability, advancing a political solution, and providing humanitarian and relief aid, all driven by its responsibility toward Yemen and its people.

Albudaiwi further noted that the security of maritime navigation and the freedom of international trade are fundamental pillars for regional and international security and stability. He stated that any attempts to target international waterways constitute an explicit violation of international law, the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Moreover, Albudaiwi urged the international community to take a firm stance against these false Houthi allegations and threats. He called for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions to ensure the protection of maritime navigation and to prevent practices that endanger the security of international maritime lanes.

Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC's full support for Saudi Arabia, backing all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty, and interests.
