Speaker of Shura Council Emphasizes Strengthening Arab Joint Action for Security, Stability

Doha: HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim emphasized the need for strengthening Arab joint action and enhancing coordination among Arab states. He highlighted the importance of collective security, protection of national resources, and safeguarding development achievements, asserting that sustainable development is intertwined with security and stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the 39th session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union held via videoconference, HE Al Ghanim addressed recent Iranian attacks and violations against Qatar and other Arab nations. He stressed that such actions contradict principles of good neighborliness and violate international law and state sovereignty.

He condemned Iranian aggression in the region, warning of its detrimental impact on regional security and stability, and its potential to erode trust among nations. HE Al Ghanim welcomed efforts aimed at ceasefires and de-escalation, noting the adverse effects of continued hostilities on regional stability.

HE Al Ghanim stressed the importance of securing international waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, against threats or their use as political leverage, as these actions directly affect global navigation, energy markets, and supply chains. He emphasized that attacks on energy facilities and vital infrastructure impact global economic stability, making energy security crucial for collective security.

He affirmed Qatar's commitment to peace and dialogue as the best means of conflict resolution, highlighting that Qatar has faced direct aggression, necessitating the defense of its sovereignty and security, while maintaining a commitment to diplomatic solutions.

HE Al Ghanim underscored the need to reassess regional and international security concepts in light of recent developments, stressing that Gulf security is integral to Arab security. He called attention to ongoing Israeli violations in occupied territories, advocating for support of legitimate people's rights and an end to these violations.

HE Al Ghanim emphasized the role of Arab parliamentary coordination in strengthening Arab presence in regional and international forums, noting the success of the emergency item submitted by Qatar at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Istanbul.

The conference also featured speeches from Arab parliamentary leaders, discussing current developments and the importance of strengthening joint Arab parliamentary efforts. Discussions included organizational, administrative, and financial matters, as well as enhancing Arab parliamentary mechanisms and cooperation.

The conference's final statement praised the success of Qatar's emergency item at the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul, addressing the need for increased parliamentary efforts to uphold ceasefire agreements and support peace in the Middle East. It called for international parliamentary mobilization to support peaceful solutions and protect civilians, ensuring freedom of navigation and promoting sustainable political resolutions to ongoing conflicts.

Participants condemned Iranian attacks on Arab countries and expressed solidarity with those states' security measures. The final statement reaffirmed the central importance of the Palestinian cause, condemning ongoing occupation force attacks on Gaza and occupied territories.

The conference underscored the necessity of strengthening joint Arab parliamentary work, developing coordination mechanisms, consolidating security and stability, supporting sustainable development, and addressing challenges facing the Arab region.
