Washington: US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States has agreed to continue discussions with Iran, even though he declared an end to the ceasefire between the two nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, Trump revealed on his Truth Social platform that Iran had sought further talks, and Washington agreed to this proposal. Despite the continuation of negotiations, he noted that the previous ceasefire agreement between the countries is no longer active.
Separately, Capt Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for US Central Command, commented that there were no operational updates to report. However, he emphasized that American forces in the region are on high alert and are ready to perform operations if necessary.
The United States and Iran had previously signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-June. This agreement aimed at ending hostilities and initiating negotiations for a broader agreement, set within a 60-day timeframe, with the possibility of an extension.
