UK, EU to Hold ‘Reset’ Summit in July

Brussels: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has confirmed that his government will deliver on its pledge to "reset" relations with the European Union and strengthen the United Kingdom's position in Europe, stressing the importance of joint cooperation to address the cost-of-living crisis, support job creation, and expand opportunities for young people.

According to Qatar News Agency, this announcement follows the confirmation from the European Union and the United Kingdom that their upcoming summit will be held in Brussels on July 22. The summit aims to discuss the "reset" of relations between the two sides, after several postponements due to disputes related to the youth mobility program.

European Council President Antonio Costa has confirmed the summit date, emphasizing that close cooperation between the EU and the UK is crucial for reinforcing common European security, resilience, and economic prosperity.

The summit will address several key issues, including an agreement to facilitate trade in food and agricultural products by reducing procedures and checks on British exports to the EU. Additionally, there will be discussions on progress in negotiations to align the emissions trading systems of both sides.

Negotiations over the youth mobility program remain a major point of contention. The EU insists on reaching an agreement on this issue as a vital condition for advancing the process of resetting relations between the two sides.
