Doha: Qatari newspapers unanimously discussed in their Thursday editorials the Gulf and Arab solidarity with the State of Qatar following the attack on the tanker Al Rekayyat while it was passing near the Strait of Hormuz. The newspapers also referred to the condemnation of this attack by the Cabinet, as well as the emphasis on protecting international navigation in accordance with international law, in addition to highlighting the decision to disburse educational vouchers to Qataris with disabilities as a step supporting the path of inclusive education and empowerment.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya newspaper highlighted the broad Gulf and Arab solidarity with Qatar following the attack on the tanker Al Rekayyat. This stance reflects the depth of relations between the countries of the region and their rejection of any threat to their security and stability. Al-Raya pointed out that this solidarity was not merely a fleeting political position, but a clear message that the security of the Gulf states is interconnected, and that any targeting of one of its countries is a source of concern for all. The reactions confirmed that the security of navigation and energy in the region is a collective responsibility, and that maintaining stability requires continuous cooperation and coordination in the face of challenges.
This stance comes in light of Qatar's growing role regionally and internationally, the newspaper added, noting that the country is not only one of the world's largest producers of liquefied natural gas, but has also become an influential player in energy, mediation, and humanitarian diplomacy. Al-Raya said that over the past years, Qatar has proven its ability to deal with challenges with steadfastness and wisdom, relying on a broad network of international relations and on Gulf and Arab support that reflects its standing. This recent show of solidarity confirms that collective action and cooperation among the countries of the region remain the cornerstone for confronting crises.
In turn, Al-Watan newspaper said that during the Cabinet meeting yesterday, it renewed the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the targeting of the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat while it was transiting near the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a "serious violation of international maritime safety, a threat to global energy security and regional stability, and a blatant breach of international law." The newspaper pointed out that the Cabinet demanded that the Islamic Republic of Iran immediately halt these "dangerous practices" and affirmed that the State of Qatar reserves its full rights under international law to take measures it deems appropriate to protect its interests and national assets.
The Cabinet described the targeting of the Qatari and Saudi tankers while crossing the Strait of Hormuz as dangerous escalations that threaten regional security and stability and undermine efforts to strengthen regional peace, as were the repeated attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait, which represented a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the two countries, the newspaper underlined. Concluding its editorial, Al-Watan noted that Qatar had made great efforts to reach a ceasefire between the US and Iran, and had worked wisely through diplomatic channels to spare the region the repercussions of escalation, at the same time stressing that the attack on the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat was unacceptable and condemned in the strongest terms.
