Microsoft: Microsoft released a new update for Windows 11 to fix a bug that caused a system file to consume excessive storage space, reaching hundreds of gigabytes on some users' devices.
According to Qatar News Agency, the optional June 2026 update, identified as KB5095093, includes a fix that improves disk space usage for a file named CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal, which is installed by default with Windows and is associated with managing application permissions.
Over the past several months, a number of Windows 11 users reported that the file had grown to an unusually large size. One user said it had reached nearly 500 GB on their device, while others reported sizes ranging between 12 GB and 200 GB, significantly reducing available storage space.
Microsoft has not disclosed the exact cause of the issue. However, reports suggest that the operating system may have continuously logged repeated events related to application permission requests or privacy settings, such as location services, causing the file to expand over time.
The company said affected users can resolve the issue by installing the update through Settings, then Windows Update, selecting Advanced options, checking for Optional updates, and downloading and installing the optional June 2026 update (KB5095093).
