Beirut: President of Lebanon Joseph Aoun announced that efforts are currently underway to consolidate a ceasefire in southern Lebanon. This process is expected to be followed by the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the deployment of the Lebanese army, the return of residents, the release of prisoners, and the reconstruction of affected areas.
According to Qatar News Agency, Lebanon is engaged in talks with the United States and Israel in Washington. These discussions are centered around implementing security measures that aim to restore stability and extend the Lebanese state's authority to the southern border.
President Aoun emphasized the importance of continued British support for the Lebanese army. He also underscored the need for backing an international presence in the south, especially in light of the planned withdrawal of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in 2027.
Furthermore, Aoun mentioned that coordination with Syria is ongoing. He noted that positive remarks from Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa have been instrumental in clarifying and improving bilateral relations.
