Doha: Members of the Turkish and West African communities in Qatar have come together to celebrate Eid Al Adha, an occasion that emphasizes unity, cultural exchange, and the strengthening of social ties across different cultural backgrounds.
According to Qatar News Agency, Director of the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Doha, Anwar Gedik, expressed the Turkish community's enthusiasm for Eid Al Adha, highlighting the values of solidarity, generosity, and social cooperation that are deeply embedded in the celebrations in Turkiye. Gedik emphasized the holiday as a time to set aside differences, reinforce friendships, and strengthen social bonds. The Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Doha, organizes gatherings that foster unity and brotherhood among Turkish citizens and cultural partners, enhancing cultural interactions and reinforcing the community's cultural identity.
Gedik also recognized Qatar's atmosphere of security and stability, which allows communities to celebrate their traditions peacefully. He remarked on the shared cultural values between Turkiye and Qatar, which are centered on family ties, hospitality, and spiritual traditions. Eid Al Adha remains a significant symbol of friendship and shared values between the two nations.
Moreover, Senior Researcher at Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, Sekou Marafa Toure, commented on the unifying nature of Eid Al Adha, celebrated across the Islamic world, including in West African countries like Burkina Faso and Mali. Toure noted the similarities in celebrations between these countries and Qatar, with a focus on family gatherings, traditional foods, and social connections.
The Burkinabe community in Qatar celebrates Eid with joy and a sense of nostalgia, using the occasion as both a religious celebration and a chance for community reunion. These celebrations are organized with the support of embassies and institutions, recreating the atmosphere of Eid from back home through traditional African clothing, popular dishes, and greetings in various African languages. This helps expatriates maintain a connection to their homeland while living in Qatar.
Toure further emphasized that these celebrations reflect Qatar's unique model of cultural and human coexistence, where diverse communities can preserve their identities and traditions in an environment of respect and social harmony.
